3D PRINTED HOLLOW FORM OBJECT: THE HYBRID

Image
A.) In this project, we were supposed to design simple forms to be combined with random partners forms. This would create an interesting hybrid object. My original forms are simple, but my partner's forms seemed more complex, which was a lovely contrast that I believe propelled our project to be successful in the end. B.) Here are my original forms as well as my partners: Here is how we combined our forms initially: We decided not to go with these because we were worried about the form being quite top-heavy, therefore we opted for a 2-bulb top of the form. And the sketches:  Here was our final concept that we decided to run with as the printed result: C.) I believe our design is successful for a multitude of reasons. To start, the more upfront parts of the design come from my partner Bryana, who had smart and solid ideas about what she wanted her shapes to be. For me, my forms were an interesting mix of simple and elaborate, which fit in perfectly with my partner's forms. My

PAPERCRAFT: Prototype

Image
I had a hard time with my papercraft prototype. There was actually a list of things that went wrong, but it was an awesome learning experience.  Firstly, my tabs were way too small, which was frustrating when I needed to cut them bigger. Secondly, I underestimated the power of scoring before folding, because by the time my shape looped back around the material had been taken up by the folds, making it impossible for me to properly complete the silhouette.

Here is my practice I did through reading break.

PAPERCRAFT OBJECTS: DIGITAL SAMPLES

Image
For each shape, I tried to keep a simple example of each project concept. I wanted the shapes to have difference and uniqueness while still remaining simple.  My inspiration for this shape was a Christmas tree. I wanted these shapes to feel architectural. these shapes were supposed to feel functional.

MESH MASHUP: HD RENDERS (MILESTONE PROJECT 1) - Skateboard Mountain Colton Egert

These are my first three images for the first Milestone project, they are inspired by daytime lighting choices. These are my second three images, they are supposed to be at sunset in the mountains.

Refining Our Remix Project

Image
My MeshMixer Project: Display Images from Thingaverse: During the peer critique, I was overwhelmed with people praising my "Moving Mountains" concept, at first I wasn't sure if I liked it as much as they did, but their ideas and interpretations surrounding it actually made me appreciate my own work more. When considering which project I wanted to explore further, I personally wanted to do something that really challenged the concept of Remix Culture, which I think the contrast between these items really does that. The juxtaposition between the natural environment and the skateboard feels very appropriate for this project. Constructing a mashup of a skateboard, which is very urban, with something so natural that contrasts that completely is really interesting and thought provoking in a Read/Write Culture, like ours.

Remix Culture: This Feels Like a Parody

Remix Culture is a very interesting and unique concept that seems to be rejected and adopted constantly by the public eye. This concept is best described by the idea in which objects are personalized or changed by their respective owners.  1.
